Providing accommodations for students with disabilities can be challenging for instructors, who need to make changes from their habitual teaching methods. However, most instructors find that the difficulties are outweighed by the benefits to themselves and to the other students in their classes.

In this video an instructor describes his experience of working with deaf students.

Post-Video Reflection Questions

  • What benefits did the other students experience from (a) having a sign language interpreter in the class, and (b) having access to videos of their instructor’s presentations available online?
  • What positive experiences have you had, for yourself and your students, when accommodating students with disabilities?
